Adult Autism & ADHD Assessment FAQs

Adult Autism & ADHD Assessment FAQs

This section is to answer questions about the assessments I offer. If something is not answered here, please contact me. I welcome any questions.

The assessments that I offer are best for:
  • Adults who are wondering if they are on the spectrum and/or have ADHD
  • Adults who want answers about their possible neurodiversity for their own clarity and understanding
  • Adults who are verbally fluent
  • Individuals who wants to work with a clinician who is also neurodivergent
  • Individuals who want to work with someone who understands how Autism presents in female identifying people
  • Individuals who wish to complete a shorter assessment process and do not want testing such as IQ, personality, etc (testing that would take place during psychological testing)
  • Individuals who have had poor experiences with past medical professionals they've voiced these suspicions to (you, know the "you don't look Autistic" or "You can't be, you make eye contact" types)
  • Individuals who are comfortable with a Telehealth assessment
  • Individuals who are in Indiana (where I am licensed)

Who these assessments are not best for:
  • Those applying for disability
  • Those who are needing assistance with guardianship
  • Those who need to use their insurance
  • Those who are not verbally fluent
  • Those who would be better suited for psychological testing
  • People physically located outside of Indiana or Texas at the time of services

The types of assessments I offer:
  • ADHD only mental health assessment
  • Comprehensive neurodiversity mental health assessment that includes Autism and ADHD

Cost:
  • ADHD only: $300
  • Comprehensive neurodiveristy mental health assessment: $700
The appointment will not be billed to insurance. While I accept insurance for the counseling side of my practice, these assessments are not a covered service by insurance and are self-pay only. I will not be collecting insurance information and I will not provide a superbill for these assessments. My normal hourly rate is $150. Both of these assessments are at a discounted rate, as the hours the assessment takes and the outside of face to face work I do with you is significantly more than what I am billing.

What the ADHD only assessment includes:
  • We will start with some screening tools by completing the ADHD Self-Report Scale (ASRS) and the Adult Concentration Inventory (CCI). You are also welcome to provide any notes that have lead you to believe this is a potential diagnosis for you. If it seems assessment makes sense, we will move on to scheduling.
  • Prior to our appointment you will complete:
    • My practice paperwork, which includes some additional self-report tools
    • Barkley Adult ADHD Rating Scale-IV (BAARS-IV)
    • Barkley Deficits in Executive Functioning Scale (BDEFS)
    • Barkley Functional Impairment Scale (BFIS)*
    • Pay a $100 deposit
  • During our assessment we will complete (lasts up to 2 hours):
    • Clinical interview
    • Go over your responses from the Barkley measures and other self-report tools
    • I will let you know at the end of this appointment if ADHD is confirmed or not
  • I will provide you a letter within 2 weeks of your appointment
  • Your remaining balance will be charged before your assessment. If it is declined, your appointment will be cancelled and cannot be rescheduled until payment arrangements are made.

What the comprehensive Autism and ADHD assessment includes:
  • I will first have you complete the following: ADHD Self-Report Scale (ASRS), the Adult Concentration Inventory (CCI), Autism Spectrum Quotient (AQ), Empathy Quotient (EQ), Ritvo Autism Asperger Diagnostic Scale-Revised (RAAS-R) and the The Camouflaging Autistic Traits Questionnaire (CAT-Q) to determine if further assessment is necessary. You are also welcome to send me any notes on why you believe this diagnosis is likely. If these indicate likely neurodiversity, we will schedule our assessment and follow up appointment. If they do not, or I think you would be better suited for  psychological testing, we will not schedule, as I do not want anyone to waste their time or money obtaining a diagnosis from me if neurodiversity seems unlikely or if you're a better fit for testing.
  • Prior to our appointment you will complete:
    • My practice paperwork, which includes some additional self-report tools
    • Barkley Adult ADHD Rating Scale-IV (BAARS-IV)
    • Barkley Deficits in Executive Functioning Scale (BDEFS)
    • Barkley Functional Impairment Scale (BFIS)
    • Pay a $100 deposit
If you wish to have others in your life complete rating forms/scales, I have these available. They are also free to attend with you, with a signed release.
  • During our assessment we will complete (lasts up to 3 hours):
    • Clinical interview
    • Clinician Administered PTSD Scale for DSM 5 (CAPS-5)
    • Monteiro Interview Guidelines for Diagnosing the Autism Spectrum (MIGDAS-2)
    • Your remaining balance will be charged the day of assessment. If it is declined, your appointment will be cancelled and cannot be rescheduled until payment arrangements are made.
At our follow up we will (lasts up to an hour):
  • Discuss what your scores from all the paperwork and assessment indicated
  • Answer any questions for you or your family members regarding your diagnosis
  • You will be provided a summary letter with diagnostic information

Notes on Indiana and Texas assessment guidelines:
Per Indiana code, an LCSW can assess, diagnose and use appraisal instruments to assist in diagnosing, that are within education, experience, training and within their scope of practice. Appraisal instruments are what I am using. I am not administering psychometric testing or completing psychological testing, which is done by a licensed psychologist.
Please note, what I am offering is not psychological testing or a neuropsychological evaluation. If psychological testing is the better option for you, please go that route.

Notes on testing:
If you are desiring an evaluation for a particular purpose (i.e. SSD/SSI, ADA accommodations, IEP, college, workplace, etc) it is best that you check with them for their specific requirements and follow those recommendations. Some have very strict guidelines of what they will and will not accept. In many of those cases, it will be best to complete psychological testing with a psychologist. I am not the best option if you are applying for disability or plan to. Please note, what I am offering is not psychological testing or a neuropsychological evaluation.
