Welcome! I'm Arielle Thibodeaux, MSW, LCSW, the owner of One Step Forward Counseling, INC.
Finding the therapist that gets you probably feels like another exhausting task. You’ve been anxious and angry for way too long.
You thought you were doing "all the right things" and don't understand why you're still feeling this way. There are days you think you have it together but most of the time you know you don't. You put on a smile for everyone but you're really miserable inside and feel completely disconnected.
You lay next to your partner wondering if this is all there is to life. Your career isn't anything you thought it would be. You're tired of your partner telling you to go to counseling. Everyone tells you that you should be grateful. You know you should be but you can't shake these feelings and it makes you feel worse. You're tired of feeling miserable, exhausted and confused. You're at a complete loss of what to do anymore.
You know this isn’t you.
You're desperate to feel good. You want to laugh, play and have fun. You want to feel confident at work, connected to your partner and feel like you again. You're hopeful counseling can help, you're ready to make a change and do the work.
When you see me, you will feel free to express yourself, exactly as you are. I'm often told clients don’t feel judged and are understood for the first time. You can always count on me to get direct and honest feedback. Clients appreciate my direct but down to earth approach.
I offer flexible scheduling including evening, online or in person appointments. My office is located in Northwest Indianapolis off of 96th & Michigan. I am also able to do online appointments with anyone located within Indiana or Texas.
My mission is to reduce human suffering. I believe in a holistic approach to healing, which includes lifestyle changes. I do not believe in psychotropic medications as a first plan of action and prefer to go that route last. I encourage clients to make changes in sleep, hydration, diet, stress and exercise. I usually request clients to have current bloodwork, to help rule out underlying health issues. These changes, coupled with therapy, can result in the changes you're looking for. This is why I only take clients who are ready to do the work and make changes. Sometimes medication will be necessary but not always.
The nitty-gritty on my professional background:
I earned my bachelor's at Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 2011 and my master's at University of Southern Indiana in 2012. I have been in practice for 8 years and am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.
After graduate school, I worked in community mental health centers where I worked with clients in the jails, people who were experiencing personality disorders, anxiety, depression and PTSD.
I was then a therapist for the US Army. I was deployed in 2018 in support of Operations Spartan Shield and Inherent Resolve. I spent time working with Soldiers in Kuwait, Iraq and Jordan. My Army career is where I learned how to truly treat trauma and anxiety in a simple skills based approach.
I am a Certified Brainspotting Therapist. I am also trained and have expertise in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) and Imago Relationship Therapy.
So what does this all really mean? I have the background to help you now.
