The most common reason I see clients is for PTSD, trauma and anxiety. Trauma is any experience that exceeds our ability to cope. When you’ve had bad things happen in life, you might be struggling with the why, feelings of guilt, anxiety and anger. Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) may help.
For Fire Service and LE clients, that experienced trauma on the job, I often hear, “I was trained to do this so why does it bug me so much?” My Veteran clients sometimes struggle with survivor’s guilt or think “if I tell anyone what I did over there, they’re going to think I’m a really messed up person.”
Maybe you went through something really bad and now you can’t trust anyone. You probably feel out of control or unsafe even in places you know are ok-like your house.
Many people with PTSD have a really hard time trusting other people and feel disconnected. They often build walls or lash out in anger. They look at the world through different lenses than everyone else because they’ve seen and been through some crap.
Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is a brain based therapy that changes how painful memories are stored in the brain. A wonderful part of ART is you do not have to tell me what happened for it to be effective. The entire session is not focused on reprocessing or exposure to your trauma, which many clients prefer.
Here is a quick video explaining more:
ART can also be used for everyday stressors and dealing with life more effectively. It can also be used for concerns such as low self-esteem.
If you have tried EMDR or Brainspotting, ART differs quite a bit. In fact, I have stopped offering Brainspotting, due to the client responses I have seen with ART. The supports that traumas processing and relief in 1-5 sessions.
If you are used to talk therapies, ART is a brain therapy and there is little talk. We want you in the process as much as possible. It is also protocol driven and has distinct directions that I will guide you through. You will always know what we are doing during the treatment and there is no open endedness.
